Corey Austin

Owner/Lead Designer

Corey is the founder and now co-owner of Bonsai Architectural Designs. His collaborative leadership is fundamental to setting the company apart as a leading design firm for both the Southeast as well as his home in Kauai. Due to his innovative leadership, Bonsai ranks #1 on Houzz and GBJ (Georgia Business Journal). As a hands-on leader, Corey oversees Bonsai’s national platform and its day-to-day operations, with a plethora of skilled in-house, drafters, designers, engineers, contractors and more. Bonsai’s home base is located in a restored, but with modern day technology no amount of distance stands between the one on one, day-to-day interaction between Corey’s team and extensive list of ongoing jobs.  

Corey knows the importance of utilizing every square inch of a home in order to maximize the usability of the space. With so many factors playing a part in designing a home of Bonsai’s caliber it is necessary for Corey to oversee and be involved in every design. With a vast background in construction, flipping spec homes and numerous remodels, Corey has a working understanding of the all the necessary aspects of design required to make the impossible, possible. 

Brittney Austin

Office Administrator

Brittney’s strong organizational skills provide Bonsai’s team with a structured and well prepared approach to each project.  Her diligence behind the scenes keeps the team supplied with any and all information they need.

John Weed

ASSOC. AIA  – PARTNER & SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER 

With more than a decade of experience, John L. Weed serves as a partner and senior project manager of Bonsai Architectural Designs. John received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture (B.S.Arch) and his Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. His professional experience includes multi-family housing, mixed-use development, single-family residential, commercial hospitality, office workspace design, places of worship, healthcare, higher education, and retail.
 
John helps to guide consultants and in-house teams towards creative and
responsive design solutions. With an acute eye for creativity and a deep love for
design, John remains actively engaged in numerous prestigious projects at Bonsai.
His commitment to the firm’s continued success is evident through his focus on
nurturing strong relationships with the staff, staying apprised of the latest design
and building technologies, and establishing a personal rapport with clients. John
takes immense pride in his ability to swiftly grasp the functional, programmatic,
and budgetary requirements of each project, working closely with the Design and
Production teams to ensure even the most intricate endeavors begin on a solid
footing and maintain their integrity throughout the project development process

Dimitri Bartholomew


AIA MEMBER –  LEAD ARCHITECT PRINCIPAL

Growing up in New York, I was always fascinated by the architecture around me. Fascinated with solving spatial anomalies. But also fascinated with technology. I was into taking apart and putting together computers, phones, and anything really I can get my hands on that has a function. I attended the Academy of Art University, where I officially started my career in the second year of college after being hired by my professor back in 2013. 

At Bonsai, the range of diverse projects that I can apply my design skills to is what I love most.  

 

Timothy Helms

AIA – PROJECT ARCHITECT

With ten years of experience, Timothy Helms serves as a Project Architect for Bonsai.Timothy received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture (B.S. Arch) from Auburn University in Auburn, AL. His professional experience includes multi-family housing, mixed-use development, single-family residential, commercial luxury hospitality, office workspace design, religious and  worship, K-12, retail and sports and recreation.
 
Timothy has a passion for engaging with others. Whether in the office with coworkers, on site with contractors, or in a meeting with owners, Timothy enjoys engaging in meaningful conversation, learning from others, and being inspired by people and spaces.
 
On a daily basis, Timothy is coordinating with consultants, responding to
contractors, and meeting with owners to ensure the best project possible. During the day, Timothy still finds time to draw and assist other team members all while moving projects forward.
